It has become an artistic challenge to combine silk and felt on the same piece of artwork. In Ocean Deep and Ocean Shoal I have managed to do this. I love the vibrant colours of the silk paints and the way they blend on the silk. I also love the subtle movement of chiffon, layered and stitched, to create new textures. In both pieces the deep sea is made up of layers of different colours of net and chiffon and then machine embroidered. The coral is cut from hand-made felt and chain-stitched by hand. They are then embellished with buttons to give extra detail.
